The concept of "Help Us Help Others" was created to help those suffering individuals who are seeking naturopathic medical treatment services (or complementary and alternative medicine) but yet do not have the resources or finances to either begin or continue along their treatment program.

Unfortunately, the field of complementary and alternative medicine or integrative medicine does not receive appropriate government attention, subsidy or funding. There's no money. Sadly, most patients rely on personal savings and limited insurance reimbursements to help support their naturopathic medical treatments and services. There are no HMOs or government subsidized naturopathic medical services programs available in Canada and the US. It is more common to have expensive medications covered by the government for underprivileged patients and yet it is completely un-common to have an inexpensive multi-vitamin/mineral subsidized or covered—which does not make common sense!

Persons, for example, with illnesses which may interfere in their abilities to hold onto stable work and receive insurance benefits (i.e. schizophrenia, MS, patients with cancer affected from either their cancer or treatments) may never receive the opportunity to seek the rewards of complementary and alternative medical options. The elderly may also fall into this category. In cancer care, naturopathic medical services are demonstrating positive benefit for suffering cancer patients and yet these same people are paying "out of pocket" for the continued benefits. Many patients do not even share this privilege. Sadly, some patients who are achieving stabilization or shrinkage of their tumors (and leukemia's/lymphomas) need to stop or reduce naturopathic treatments due to limited or exhausted savings.

The federal and provincial government continues to ignore the high number of consumers who use and are happy with naturopathic medical care and complementary or alternative medicines along with the growing amount of scientific research and evidence in this arena. Both Canadian and US statistics clearly show the large numbers of healthcare consumers using complementary and alternative medical approaches by their own personal resources—without any government support.

This is why I am asking for help in the form of finances or other resources for such unfortunate persons. While I try to help as many people as I possibly can afford, I can not continue to do it all alone. It is through the help of your generosity that, at one point, all patients may have the opportunity to either seek or continue to receive the benefits of naturopathic medical care and complementary and alternative medicine. In my opinion, the ideal medical model should consist of an integrated medical approach (i.e. integrative medicine) or in more simple terms—"using the best of both worlds". Naturopathic medicine (and the like) must be made available for all people that choose to access it and for those people where more common medical approaches are not providing all the answers.
