The use of “vaccines” in cancer care may help to target and trigger the immune system in the fight against cancer. The category can be considered quite broad and confusing to some. At LEMMO Integrated Cancer Care Inc, we have observed encouraging outcomes in select patients with the use of such agents and we have provided guidance in this area when needed.
Studies & further reading
Research findings depend on the treatment, diagnosis, study design and patient population. These readings support a conversation with your care team; they do not establish that a treatment is suitable for you.
In 512 men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, the specific cellular immunotherapy sipuleucel-T improved median overall survival by 4.1 months compared with placebo. Time to objective disease progression was similar, and chills, fever and headache were more frequent with treatment. This is evidence for one defined product in a selected cancer population; it does not validate unspecified cancer vaccines or general immune-stimulating treatments.
