At LEMMO Integrated Cancer Care Inc., we believe that supporting immune system balance is a cornerstone of care.
There is the standard flu vaccine approach to prevent or reduce the duration of colds and flu’s which can have its value. Other more anecdotal or experimental evidence methods exist which may consist of homeopathic medicines, intravenous therapies, along with certain nutritional and botanical agents which can also be utilized to support the body and immune system. It is key whenever possible to address a whole-person approach in this area, since variables such as poor sleep, improper diet, or a nutrient deficiency(s) may make a person more susceptible to or more difficult to clear an infection of any kind.
Using a combination approach of the flu vaccine along with a natural-based approach may also be another approach to consider as some preliminary research suggests this may lead to an enhanced immune response.
Studies & further reading
Research findings depend on the treatment, diagnosis, study design and patient population. These readings support a conversation with your care team; they do not establish that a treatment is suitable for you.
Drawing on 102 publications, this guideline recommends reviewing vaccination status and coordinating appropriate seasonal and other vaccines with cancer care. The aim is to prevent infection where possible and reduce its severity. Timing and vaccine selection depend on treatment and immune status. This evidence concerns specified vaccines; it does not demonstrate that nutrient infusions, homeopathy or combinations of natural products improve vaccine responses.
This review included six trials of one homeopathic product. It found no statistically significant prevention benefit. Some low-quality treatment trials suggested earlier symptom relief, but the reviewers judged the evidence insufficient for reliable conclusions about prevention or treatment. The findings do not establish that homeopathic products prevent influenza, replace vaccination or offer protection for people whose cancer treatment suppresses immunity.
