A seven-year disease-free survivor of malignant pleural mesothelioma treated with hyperthermia and chemotherapy: a case report
Introduction
Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) was once a rare finding, but its incidence is increasing worldwide, most likely because of widespread exposure to asbestos [1,2]. MPM is considered to have a poor prognosis, and complete surgical resection is the only curative treatment. However, the post-operative median survival time (MST) after surgery is only approximately one year [3-5]. Moreover, there is no standard treatment for inoperable MPM. We report a case of a seven-year disease-free survivor who was diagnosed as having MPM and was treated with hyperthermia and chemotherapy.
